Description

The Centre for Media and Communication Research (CMCR) in collaboration with HKBU Fact Check is organising a conference on "Health Communication in the Digital Era: Information, Trust, and Strategies". This conference is designed to foster interdisciplinary collaboration among scholars and practitioners in healthcare and intercultural communication, with a particular focus on misinformation and trust-building. By collaborating with local fact-checkers in Hong Kong, we aim to bridge the gap between academic research and practical application. Our objective is to disseminate valuable insights to non-academic audiences, providing industry stakeholders with effective healthcare communication strategies, while also offering researchers an industry perspective to enhance their work and promote better health outcomes.

The conference will feature a series of engaging panels and sessions that delve into critical aspects of health communication in the digital age. It will bring together renowned scholars from the University of Minnesota, Universitat Rovira i Virgili, alongside Asian perspectives from Hong Kong Baptist University, City University of Hong Kong, and Nanyang Technological University, Singapore. These sessions will address the construction of trust in digital health platforms from diverse perspectives, enriching the dialogue with a global viewpoint.

The event will culminate in a dynamic roundtable discussion titled "Fact-Checking Health Misinformation: An Industry Perspective," featuring industry experts from AFP, HKBU Fact Check, HKU Annie Lab, and Factcheck Lab. This session aims to provide practical insights into combating misinformation in healthcare, equipping participants with the tools necessary to critically assess health information. Through this discussion, we seek to engage diverse audiences and foster meaningful dialogue with key stakeholders, ultimately influencing attitudes and driving positive behaviour change in healthcare communication.

Refreshments will be served and all are welcome to join!
